After much prayer and discussion, it is with great sadness and joy that we announce, The Gager Family is returning to the States. This decision has not been an easy one. We are sad because we are leaving our “family”, The Mason’s, our friends, the farm and community we’ve grown to love. Joy because we know that God is continuing the work that He started here and look forward to the plans He has for our family. It says in Jeremiah 29:11, God has plans to prosper and not to harm us, plans for a hope and a future.
A few weeks ago The Mason family spent time with us revisiting their vision. They extended an invitation to continue working here at the farm in Mossel Bay. We felt in our spirits that we should take some time to specifically pray about what the Lord was saying, so we decided to pray for 2 weeks seeking God’s direction for our family.
During our prayer time, we received scriptures and words from our prayer partners. One word that kept coming was “season”. It says in Ecclesiastes, chapter 3, “To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven.” God confirmed this as we prayed. God spoke to Matt and said this season is complete and we are to go back to the States to plan and prepare for the next season of ministry. Bree agreed. During her prayer time, God revealed to her that this has been a season of healing and restoration in her life as well as an establishment of a mission base and farm in South Africa. We have felt His presence very strongly and heard His voice clearly.
We want to take a minute here and clarify a couple things: 1. No, we did not get into an argument with the Mason family. Our decision was based on leading from the Lord. 2. We are not running home because Africa is too tough or because we are too homesick. We are not going to lie…. we do miss our friends and family in the States, but our reason for going back is due to a leading from the Lord. 3. We are not coming home because we are having money issues. We live totally by faith. God supplies all our needs according to His riches in glory. He has done a great job providing thus far and we have faith that He will continue to provide. We are coming home due to a leading from the Lord.
As we reflect on what God has done, we believe our mission has been very fruitful. We have had a time of healing and restoration for our family. We have made new friends. We made great connections with our neighbors as well as in the townships. Young people have been encouraged and loved. A base of operations has been established on the Farm. We have cleared land and planted crops. Many hours of prayer and worship has been offered up to God. All of this, in the short time we’ve been here. We are confident in the work God has completed through us. We will never be the same.
Please continue to pray for Josh and Mindy’s family as they remain here in South Africa, continuing the work that God has begun. We will greatly miss them, as they have become our family. We love and honor the Mason Family. They are dedicated to pioneering the mission that God has placed on their hearts to love and reach the lost in Mossel Bay. Like us, they want to love everyone God brings along their path. He is blessing their work and vision. We look forward to seeing the lost meet Papa God and know Him the way we do and let Him change their lives forever in South Africa.
Will you continue to pray for us as we move into the “next season” of our journey and as God reveals His plans to us? We will be continuing to post updates of our mission to our personal blog page and sending center website Four18.org. If you want to visit or have any questions please feel free to message us on Facebook or WhatsApp and we will get back to you as soon as possible. We greatly appreciate your partnership with us in prayer and financial support. All of this would not be possible without it. Thanks you! We love you!
